Launch of the world’s first Fast Displacement with hybrid propulsion: Project Nova now christened HOME!
Escape a world full of noise…
Heesen launches 50m Home with silent cruising
The acclaimed Dutch shipyard Heesen, has officially launched the Fast Displacement 50m Home (formerly Project NOVA), this weekend in Oss, The Netherlands. Built in with hybrid propulsion, her technology makes her the first of a new breed for the shipyard. The Fast Displacement Hull Form offers fuel efficiency due to the use of aluminium, and above all Heesen’s ability to build to the highest standards whilst maintaining weight control. These technicalities prove she is not only an ultra-efficient, low fuel-burning yacht, but also one of the quietest on the oceans, offering the ultimate luxury: the option to cruise in silence.
The silent cruising mode can reach up to 9 knots, all while remaining as silent as when anchored, creating one outstanding effect: sheer silence on the seas. Heesen’s in-house naval architects devised this hybrid propulsion by creating two sources of power: diesel mechanical and diesel electrical. Either or both sources can be used at once to provide less noise and vibration.
The option allows her captain and crew to start early and leave the port without waking the owners and guests. What better way to wake up, than already at sea to watch the sunrise?
To determine exactly how one’s experience on board Home can be enhanced by this silent cruise mode, Heesen worked closely with Professor and sensory expert, Barry Smith. Looking at the activities guests mainly partake in during an outing at sea, the obvious daily activities are to enjoy good food and wine whilst anchored but also whilst cruising.
Professor Barry Smith’s research shows that Home will allow guests to fully enjoy the small luxuries of life, by stating:‘Our research has shown that the brain’s processing of taste is affected by noise, which reduces the tongue’s ability to detect salt, sweet and sour. The beauty of Home is the ability to run at a sound of around 46 decibels — the sound level of softly falling rain – enabling those on board to enjoy food and drink to the full with no diminution of taste’.
Heesen believes that ‘silence is the ultimate luxury’.
The acclaimed Dutch yacht builders continually strive to complement technology and design. This stunning lightweight aluminium piece of technology is wrapped in an elegant design package with exterior lines by Frank Laupman at Omega Architects and interior styling by Italian designer Cristiano Gatto, appointed by the owner himself.
